Goodyear Store

One of the largest signs yet to be erected on Lincoln Way in Ames is shown here as it was hoisted into position yesterday.  The 16-foot wide sign signals completion of construction on the Goodyear building, underway since last August.  The sign, which cost $4,000, has a border of 130 flashing bulbs.

The truck doors read, Iowa Neon Light Co.  Two houses (402 and 408 Lincoln Way) and a neighborhood grocery store (404 Lincoln Way) were removed in 1957 to provide the site for the new Goodyear Service Store (402 Lincoln Way).  View photos of the moving of the house.  Learn more about Van's Grocery.  Visible at right in the above image is the house at 416 Lincoln Way.  Before the move, the Goodyear Store was located at 219 Main Street.
